The Forward Bend


I decide to make some serious, healthier lifestyle changes. And yoga seems like a good place to start. So here I am with my late November resolution of a healthier me, trying to contort my unbending body to somehow make it more ductile. 

A voice from the underworld breaks my reverie, “Why are you making sounds like a hissing monster?”

I open my eyes to behold a laughing and amazed Omar.

“Omar, I am trying to do yoga. Why don’t you go outside or sit quietly here,” I say while trying to straighten my legs which seemed to have bent in opposite directions beyond all manipulation.

“But don’t make these noises, it’s scary," Omar says and settles near my exercise mat to observe my attempts at lifestyle changes.

“Now, what are you doing?” Omar asks as I sit straight and try to somehow hold my elusive toes.

“This is called forward bending. I am supposed to touch my toes,” I tell him while my stubborn body refuses to budge an inch.

“But you are not doing it right” Omar proclaims, sits down near me and starts doing it. As he effortlessly holds his toes, his eyes widen (as they always do) and shine with excitement. “See, I can do it.”

“Yes, Omar, you are a child, your bones have more elasticity.”

“What’s that?”

“Nothing. Omar, let me do it.”

Omar looks at me and decides to take on the responsibility to make me more elastic. “Okay, I will pull your arms.” Here he starts pulling my arms to make them touch the toes.

“Omar, you will break them. I simply can’t do it, need to practice.”

Omar looks at me askance. “Why can’t you do it, it is so simple,” he is truly surprised. His eyes widening halfway down his face bear testimony to his surprise.

He thinks and observes me for a while, and concludes: “Your legs are too long.” He pauses, looks at me again and ventures another possible explanation: “Or maybe, your arms are too small.”

Now he observes me with something like pity in his eyes. “Do you think you will need to get your legs cut a little?  Or maybe, you can pray and ask God to make your arms a bit longer?" he asks.

“Omar, I will be okay with some practice. Now, if you don’t sit quietly I will start doing that hissing thing.”


“Please don’t, it is really scary.”

    I really think that Omar and Mobby are children who think that being older in age is really successful but I think it isn’t .Whenever some one is hiding his / her age and Omar asks him ,whatever happens he/she have to tell because Omar insists so much. Sometimes I really think that Omar’s going to be a scincetist and sometimes I think he is going to be a Fruit wala .sometimes he is so creative and sometimes he is so silly. Again to Mobby he is a child who is very very talkative which makes him look like if he is 4 years old and infact he is just 2 and a half years old.
    I really loved this part while I was reading so I also wrote something about it. So nomi khala these are the remarks I wanted to give you .All of it was good but I think this is the one I loved the most.Mine isn’t quite good but I think that you would like it because I am the only one in my family who didn’t reply late.

How Selfishia got Rid of Her Feathery Moustache

Selfihsia the selfish hen was unhappy. And understandably so. After all, having a feathery moustache is not the same thing as having a new hairdo or a brand new dress from a well-known boutique. She couldn’t flaunt it.     It didn’t make her feel beautiful. It didn’t even make her feel like an ordinary hen with a few feathers missing. She felt feathery at the wrong places and this made her sad. One day when she was crying and looking at her reflection in the puddle of water near the grapefruit tree, Kayseria strutted toward her. “Selfhisha, I have clucked at the thought and have finally come up with a solution,” she said. Martian in the Land of Lilliputians

“Are you really from Mars?” Saif asks me in his usual pitch of voice: loud. He apparently presumes I am sitting on the ceiling fan.  “Saif, I am near. I can even hear you whisper. Yes, I am from Mars.” Saif tries to lower his voice a notch. He doesn’t succeed.  “No, you are not. You make up stories, and you don’t understand the language of birds and animals. You have made up also those stories about Selfishia and Kayseria.” “Saif, first you doubt my Martian antecedents and then you challenge my communication abilities. Okay, if you don’t want to believe it, don’t,” I say with Martian nonchalance. “But why do you say so? Okay, now that the Curiosity Rover has landed on Mars will you go back?” “I don’t need any curiosity rover. I can go there on my own volition, just by snapping my fingers and closing my eyes.” Martian nonchalance helps to make your point. “I know this can’t be true. You are not from Mars,” Saif asserts his nine years old adult-hood.
